Based on "Tilly Losch and 'Her Dance of Her Hands,' a film by Norman Bel Geddes, c. 1930-1933. Original music by Rodney Sauer.
This piece is an original re-staging of the 1930 dance-for-the-camera. Impossible to be performed live as filmed and edited, camera angles, cuts, and POV are included as part of the staged choreography. In addition, when staging the filmed dance, minute attention was paid to reconstructing the movement but not the dancer's movement quality. Both were done to engender comparison. In performance, staged and screened image are presented side by side--a duet--so the viewer may compare and contrast staged vs. screened movement, the physical movement qualities of a 2008 vs. 1930 dancer.
