I went to the hardware store and discovered that you can't buy lye any more to make soap, because of the misuse in certain non legal entertainment use. Since we are making soap, I didn't know anything about this, and went home to make lye. I have been burning hardwood to make ash for this project for 5 days in my Dutch Stove. We had a good rain, so collected rain in my rain barrel and started the experiment. This is part one "HOW TO MAKE LYE-HARDWOOD ASH FOR SOAP MAKING" Lye is made from hardwood ash made from burning hardwoods, like maple, birch, beech, elm, oak and I have a large list of hardwood trees at the end of the film. This video was requested by youtube users.
What is hardwood? The term hardwood describes wood from a broad-leaved angiosperm tree. In simplier terms mostly deciduous, you know the types of trees that loose their leaves in the Autumn;but there are tropical trees that produce hardwoods too. The wood has a higher density and hardness than softwoods, like conifer trees, with the evergreen needle..pine,fir and cedar. Hardwoods are found all over the world and in North America and Canada. Some of the hardwoods you might have in your region could be' oak, beech, ash, maple, cherry, apple, apricot, basically fruit trees.
If you live in a tropical climate the hardwoods include, teak, mahogany, iroko, ebony and rubberwood.
At the end of this film, I will list most known hardwoods.

I went down to visit some friends in Bellingham for the weekend and made a video of what went down.
Friday we premiered the Steven's pass vid @ Western Washington University. There was an awesome turnout. We filled every seat and aisle for about 130 desperate shreds waiting for the season to get going. We put on a handstand competition for a few epoch sweaters.
Saturday we all piled into cars no less than 5 in each and scraped down to snoqualime where Krush and the Rome dudes we nice enough to let us have a jib session on shaved ice and mud. Super Fun. Leah ate a stick of charcoal that previously was a hotdog for a t shirt, but snagged a sweater while she was at it.
Sunday we ran a jib session in the park down the street from Trevor's that over looks Bellingham harbour. It was great riding with a smaller crew rather than the 160+ turnout from the day before. Phil took a bad fall on a hero run through the coniferous. Luckily he laughed it off. Trevor did a bk 1 cab 3 out on his second hit. I was so jealous I didn't put it in the edit.
Overall an awesome pre season weekend. Next time Im back I will probably be riding the chairs at Baker.

This is just me playing along to a backing track. Its hard to hear the track, but the solo is all right. I,ve been playing for almost five years so if you comment try to stick to theoretical content, such as music theory or constructive critisizm. If you like what you see come see my band and I at the west ranch bar and grill off of 285 in conifer, colorado. Thanks enjoy!

Mon beau sapin, roi des forêts
Que j'aime ta verdure !
Quand par l'hiver, bois et guérets
Sont dépouillés de leurs attraits
Mon beau sapin, roi des forêts
Tu gardes ta parure.
Toi que Noël planta chez nous
Au saint anniversaire,
Mon beau sapin, comme il est doux
De te voir briller par nous,
Toi que Noël planta chez nous
Scintillant de lumière.
Mon beau sapin tes verts sommets
Et leur fidèle ombrage
De la foi qui ne ment jamais
De la constance et de la paix.
Mon beau sapin tes verts sommets
M'offrent la douce image.

A Christmas tree, or (rarely) Yule tree, is one of the most popular traditions associated with the celebration of Christmas. It is normally an evergreen coniferous tree that is brought into a home or used in the open, and is decorated with Christmas lights and colorful ornaments during the days around Christmas. An angel or star is often placed at the top of the tree, representing the host of angels or the Star of Bethlehem from the Nativity story. The custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Germany, though neither an inventor nor a single town can be identified as the sole origin for the tradition, which was a popular merging of older traditions mentioned above; in the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, the church record mentions the erection of a Christmas tree. In that period, the guilds started erecting Christmas trees in front of their guildhalls: Ingeborg Weber-Kellermann (Marburg professor of European ethnology) found a Bremen guild chronicle of 1570 which reports how a small fir was decorated with apples, nuts, dates, pretzels and paper flowers, and erected in the guild-house, for the benefit of the guild members' children, who collected the dainties on Christmas day.[5] Another early reference is from Basel, where the tailor apprentices carried around town a tree decorated with apples and cheese in 1597. During the 17th century, the custom entered family homes. One Strasbourg priest, Johann Konrad Dannerstuart, complains about the custom as distracting from the Word of God.
By the early 18th century, the custom had become common in towns of the upper Rhineland, but it had not yet spread to rural areas. Wax candles are attested from the late 18th century. The Christmas tree remained confined to the upper Rhineland for a relatively long time. It was regarded as a Protestant custom by the Catholic majority along the lower Rhine and was spread there only by Prussian officials who were moved there in the wake of the Congress of Vienna in 1815.
In the early 19th century, the custom became popular among the nobility and spread to royal courts as far as Russia. Princess Henrietta of Nassau-Weilburg introduced the Christmas tree to Vienna in 1816, and the custom spread across Austria in the following years. In France, the first Christmas tree was introduced in 1840 by the duchesse d'Orléans.

The James M. DuPont Meteorite Collection - No experiments seem to have been undertaken on the possibility of algal photosynthesis in saline media at subzero temperatures, but such a result would not be unexpected. Although slightly out of context, it is worth noting that some terrestrial plants are able to carry out a limited photosynthesis at —2° to — 3°C., and respire down to — 7°C. (Zeller, 1951). In the last century, Jumelle (1891) reported that certain lichens and conifers could photosynthesize at temperatures between —20° and —40° C., but modern studies have failed 344 Annals New York Academy of Sciences to corroborate these findings (Rabinowitch, 1945; Zeller, 1951). Before leav- ing the subject of growth at low temperatures it must be stressed that in all cases the growth is slow,
