NS A&Y Job switches Chandler Concrete, the sole remaining customer on a 2 mile CF-Line remnant of the old Atlantic & Yadkin Railroad that ran between Greensboro, NC and Mt. Airy. The line continues another 1/2 a mile behind the engine but is out-of-service. Crews dub this "THE HILL" because of the steep grade to reach the cement plant. Southern Railway abandoned the Greensboro-Walnut Cove segment in 1981. The Yadkin Valley RR operates the remaining Rural Hall-Mt. Airy segment.

Crew 198 goes to their first summer camp at Camp Raven Knob in Mt. Airy, NC and participates in the high adventure program called Rampage located just over the border in Independence, VA. In this part of the video you will see our departure. Our Crew was much smaller than it is today so we had to take the bus with the Troop because they were going to the same camp as we were. But only two from the Troop would be going to Rampage with us. You will see us after we completed our swim tests so that we could go kayaking later in the week. Then you will see where we lived for a week. Very awesome except one thing...no showers. They gave us two options, bathe in the creek with biodegradable camp soap or we could use the hose, which the water smelled of sulfur so many of us waited for that one trip back to base camp during the middle of the week where they had showers. ANYWAYS! After our lovely camp we went on our two day backpacking trip through the Grayson National Highlands on the AT. After that we went caving. Then we had to wash the jumpsuits we dirtied up.
