Old NY firehouse collapses just before being moved:
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- An 1890 firehouse that had been jacked up onto a platform to be moved out of the way of a highway project just north of New York City has crumbled into rubble.
A crew was doing final preparation work before the planned move when the old Centennial Firehouse became unstable and just fell in, the two-story firehouse is now "a pile of bricks."
The north-south Route 9 highway is being widened near the abandoned firehouse. The city had decided to move the firehouse a block away, where it would have become part of a historic district including a train station where Abraham Lincoln spoke in 1861.
Local video producer Thom Pernice of InHouse Video Creative Services had been documenting the move for several weeks and witnessed the fall, his footage was featured on TruTv's "Most Daring"
